LBCSHL Playoffs HGP and Pennsbury Favorites

The Bucks County Currier Times continued its regular coverage of local high school hockey with a recent article on the LBCSHL playoffs. Although the title of the piece declared the lower bucks second season to be a wide open affair the favorites for the championship are clearly Holy Ghost Prep and Pennsbury High School. HGP has won four out of the last five championships and has built a real LBCSHL dynasty. What is more impressive than the championships they have won however is the program they have built. Any team can win a game on any given night, but it takes an actual program to be perennially strong and a favorite to win every night. After a slow start HGP finished with a 15-7 league record and in second place behind Pennsbury High School. The Falcons finished in first with an 18-3-1 record and tough to beat 4.18 goals for and 1.68 goals against. They do however enter the playoffs with injuries in their top line. Pennsbury relies on that line heavily and as the Falcons Head Coach John Bria put it, “The kids stepped up to fill the void...Nobody's going to replace Barnes and Gannon, but they have stepped up." Both Holy Ghost Prep and Pennsbury High School had first round byes.
