LBCSHL Mercy Rule

The LBCSHL Coaches Code of Conduct and Responsibilities enforces a mercy rule, or as it is called by the league an eight goal non-embarrassment rule, stating that "when a team goes up by eight or more goals, the team that is in the lead is expected to go into a numbered passing drill type of offense or other drill." The point of a mercy rule is to end an unfair or potentially humiliating contest. While it does not look like any team this year has had to do this in the LBCSHL, and it would be difficult to prove that a team did or did not abide by this rule, one has to wonder if playing keep away betrays the sense of compassion mentioned in the LBCSHL's codicils. Is it not better to simply end the game at some point?
