Chicago Showcase

As part of the never ending professionalization of youth sports tryouts for the Chicago Showcase are being held next month. The Sun-Sentinal recently referred to the event as "arguably hockey's single most important recruiting vehicle for high school players." The reasoning behind this includes the large number of scouts congregated in one place and the all-star like atmosphere of the teams sent. According to the SHSHL the tournament "typically attracts between 200 and 300 scouts from Junior, Division I, Division III, and Professional Hockey." Simply by making a regional squad a player has distinguished themselves through talent and commitment. Playing in a tournament such as this is not a sure fire way to make it to college hockey, but it is definitely something for a player to consider if they want to play in college.
