Christian Brothers Academy, Again
The Star-Ledger named Matt Jensen their high school hockey player of the week. The Christian Brothers Academy senior forward is part of the growing trend of great hockey in the state of New Jersey. Simply put the Philadelphia area can not ignore what is going on across the river any longer.

I have a theory about the success in New Jersey over the success in the Philadelphia area. With the exception of a few programs, most coaches have little or no playing experience. Many coaches who have the experience resign or are fired because of parents who don't agree with the coaches decisions i.e. "My son/daughter should be getting more ice time, etc." It's about the adult egos.
For example, a good friend of mine coached for one of the AAA programs in the area a few years ago. Several parents did like him and let it become personal and had my friend dismissed. (These are the same parents we hear about who think their child is a star, but they ain't) My friend was heart-broken as were many players. To make a long story short, he found another coaching position with a rival AAA team and his players followed him. Guess what? They finished in the top 5 at nationals 2 years later.
Let's face it, hockey is an expensive sport and in order to play at the AAA level you need to have money. The majority of these parents make a decent living and have positions of power at work as executives, doctors, lawyers, etc. These parents are used to getting their way.
Being a public school teacher, I can tell you that parents complain about high school coaches all the time, but they can do very little other than scream at a school administrator. I wonder if hockey finally becomes sanctioned by the PIAA, if hockey will have the same success as New Jersey.
By the way, I like this site and the postings you have. Keep up the good work, this will catch on soon.
