St. Joseph's Prep Can't Keep It Out Of The Net

St. Joseph's Preparatory School is featuring some young netminders this year. To make matters worse the teams natural playing style seems to lean towards offense only, with 30 goals they are currently tied for first with Malvern Prep in Philadelphia AAA offensive production. The flip side of that coin is a lack of defense in the the Hawks play leading to 36 goals against. Starting goalie Paul Sjostrom has faced twice as many shots as any other goalie in AAA play with 287 in 9 games. All of those 9 games were scoring fests featuring an average of 7.3 total goals scored. According the the St. Joseph's Prep team website they are carrying three goalies all of whom are underclassmen. Inexperience in the net coupled with a lack of defensive responsablity suggests that the Hawks are susceptible to a shooting match.

I think you need to go back and look at the stats. St. Joe's starting goalie has had 3 shut outs and pretty good stats with the exception of a game or two. So I do not know where you get that all nine games were scoring fests. You should check your facts before you blog something that isn't true. Seems to me you just want to put down the Prep.

There are no sides here. St. Joe's gives teams a lot of shots and the goalies are getting a lot of work. It should be noted that their goalies are young. The starting goalie does in fact have two, and only two, AAA league shutouts. They were against Germantown Academy, currently 0-7-1 in league play, and Salesianum currently 1-8-1 in league play. Over the ten game league schedule opposing teams scored 5 or more goals half the time. The average goals against for the year was 4.1 in league play. The statistics used in the original blog included non-league play as well. Both league and non-league games were in fact scoring fests as the scores generally were high and one sided in either direction. This is indicative of a shooting match between teams. There are no sides here. The conclusion of the original blog post was that the team may be susceptible to a run and gun attack and to help their young goaltenders they will need to clamp down defensively. It should also be noted that under the "The Measure Of Success in New Programs" blog entry St. Joe's was praised for their program's strength and that the direction of their program is a positive one.

After rereading your first post and then reading your response, I have to say you were totally right on in everything you said. I am relatively new to blogging(which I probably will only read now and not respond)and not so new to hockey but still need to learn alot more. I can now see that the season is over that you were right about needing to clamp down defensively. Thanks for the lessons and sorry I at first took you blog the wrong way. Looking for to next season and your future blogs!
