Penn's Class of '23 Rink Falls To Expansion

According to the University of Pennsylvania plans for expansion the Class of '23 Arena will be demolished as the university extends its campus over the newly acquired 30 plus acres of land located between the campus and the Schuylkill River and the recently purchased U.S Postal Building located at 30th and Market Streets. The Class of '23 Arena was established in 1968 when a group called the "Friends of Pennsylvania Hockey" in conjunction with the Class of 1923 raised 3.2 million dollars to begin construction. Penn fielded an NCAA division one hockey team until the university cut the program during the 1978 season. Currently St. Joseph's Prep uses the Class of '23 as their home rink. The University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University are currently the only Ivy League teams to not field NCAA division one hockey teams.
